Student guidebook on fruit crops production and management

Download
  • Abstract

This student-centered manual is designed as a foundational field guide for those pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. While many educational resources focus on theory, this guidebook answers the question of what is fruit crops management through direct, hands-on application. It serves as a practical companion to the study of food crops, specifically focusing on the long-term management required for perennial fruit trees compared to the faster cycles of annual vegetable crops.

The content is structured to build technical competency across a variety of representative species. Students are guided through the step-by-step processes of nursery management, vegetative propagation, and orchard establishment for tropical favorites such as mango and papaya, as well as temperate and subtropical species such as apples and citrus. Each session focuses on "learning by doing," covering everything from identifying specialized horticultural tools to calculating planting densities and measuring fruit maturity indices (Brix and pH).

By focusing on the practical nuances of the production cycle, this guide empowers students to bridge the gap between classroom concepts and field-level success. It is an essential resource for developing the vocational skills necessary to modernize the horticulture sector and improve regional food security through professionalized fruit production.
