SNV selected as a service provider for EEP Africa

SNV, in partnership with Open Capital Advisors (OCA), was awarded the contract as a service provider to support the implementation of the fund activities.

THE HAGUE, THE NETHERLANDS, 13 October 2022 - SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is honoured to be selected by the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) as a service provider for implementation support to the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa), a clean energy financing facility.

SNV, in partnership with Open Capital Advisors (OCA), was awarded the contract as a service provider to support the implementation of the fund activities.

EEP Africa provides early-stage grants and catalytic financing to innovative clean energy projects, technologies, and business models in 15 countries across Southern and Eastern Africa. Project financing is supplemented by business development support services, investment facilitation, knowledge management, and partnerships.

The EEP Africa Trust Fund is headed by a fund management unit at NDF based in Helsinki, Finland. The implementation support partners, SNV and Open Capital, collaborate closely with NDF across all EEP Africa activities, providing thematic expertise and regional presence. As the host and fund manager, NDF assumes overall responsibility for the management, administration, and performance of the programme throughout its life. NDF has managed EEP Africa since it was transformed into a Trust Fund in 2018.

Commenting on the selection of SNV as an EEP Africa service provider Martijn Veen, Global Head of Energy at SNV, said, 'This marks an important step for SNV’s energy sector and builds on the innovative financing work that we are already undertaking in various initiatives around the globe.'

'We look forward to working as an integral part of the EEP Africa team from our Nairobi office and drawing on our country office structures. With SNV’s local presence and understanding of the local context, we can add value by bringing in our networks, relationships, know-how, and capacity to adapt to changing environments.'

Since its inception in 2010, EEP Africa has facilitated 5.1 million people with enhanced energy access and created over 9,000 jobs while mitigating 1.5 million tons of CO2 emissions.
