Good manufacturing practices concerning safe processed products of mango and tomato

On 18th July 2018, SNV organised a two-day training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at the PRAN factory in Natore. Staff from PRAN, Kishwan, Sajeeb and BSTI - Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution working in Quality Control, Food Safety, Production, Storage, Maintenance & Housekeeping, Purchase, Training Distribution, and HR and were provided this training on GMP.

These participants will be able to enhance their knowledge on process planning, systems, and technologies and contribute to safe production of processed products of mango and tomato produced by the 10,000 farmers of Natore and Rajshahi Districts. These 10,000 farmers are the beneficiaries of the project “Improving consumer awareness and access to certified safe tomato and mango products in Bangladesh” funded by the European Union and implemented by SNV and its partners Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and Centre of Excellence Agro Food Skills (CEAFS).

Mahbub Ullah, Project Coordinator of SNV, delivered the welcome speech at the inauguration ceremony, briefed about the project and gave an overview of GMP for processing companies involved in production of processed products of mango and tomato. A video documentary on value chain concept was also shown at the event.

Md. Hazrat Ali, General Manager, PRAN, as Special Guest advised the participants to learn more on GMP from this training and to add value in the production process.

Md. Selim Reza, Director, BSTI was the Chief Guest at the event. He inaugurated the event, discussed the importance of GMP in Bangladesh and its necessity.

Md. Mahboob Alam, Director, Bangladesh Food safety Authority (BFSA) was the Chairperson at the event. He praised SNV’s initiative in arranging this GMP training for the agro-processing companies as the training is vital for ensuring food safety in Bangladesh. He advised the participants to utilise this opportunity by learning and disseminating the same with their colleagues so that this action can be successful.
