The purpose of the MaMaSe Sustainable Water Initiative is to improve water safety and security in the Mara River Basin (MRB) in support of structural poverty reduction, sustainable economic growth, and conservation of the basin’s forest and rangeland ecosystems. Building on experience in market led development; SNV's role in MaMaSe is to lead market driven water wise agricultural development. We are partnered with Mara Farming Ltd and Wageningen University of the Netherlands in developing inclusive business relationships between farmers in the upper Mara Basin and the private sector to incentivise sustainable production of agricultural and non-timber forest commodities for increased incomes of households in the upper Mara Basin. Market led development knowledge in SNV, private sector knowledge of Mara Farming and research knowledge of Wageningen in blended to realise sustainable development in agriculture.
