ongoing

SNV, in partnership with OCA (Open Capital Advisors), will implement the EEP Africa (Energy and Environmental Partnership Trust Fund) in 15 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, guided by a vision for a climate-resilient, zero-carbon future. The project will run for two years from 2022 - 2024.

The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) hosts and manages the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (“EEP Africa” or “Fund”) as an open-ended clean energy financing facility with funding from Austria, Finland, NDF, and Switzerland. The Fund is well-aligned with NDF’s refreshed strategic direction and will continue to be an important part of NDF’s holistic approach to climate financing.

The project approach

EEP Africa has been a driver of the clean energy transition in Africa since 2010, investing over EUR 50 million in 274 pioneering projects in Southern and East Africa. The overall objective is to enhance clean energy access, development and investment, focusing on benefiting poor and underserved groups.

The Fund’s operations focus on three interrelated activities: i) Clean Energy Financing supporting early-stage renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, ii) Investment Facilitation and Business Development Support (BDS), and; iii) Knowledge and Partnerships. The Fund currently focuses on 15 countries in the SEA region where it has strong market recognition and demonstrated impact with flexibility in future to expand geographic focus pending interest and funding.

Overall objective

The overall goal of the EEP Africa Trust Fund is to contribute to sustainable and inclusive green growth and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Fund aims to support countries across Eastern and Southern Africa towards the realisation of a climate-resilient, zero-carbon future with a particular focus on having an impact on selected SGDs, namely:

SDG 1: No Poverty

SDG 5: Gender Equality

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy,

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 13: Climate Action
