Treatment technologies in practice
On-the-ground experiences of faecal sludge and wastewater treatment
Abstract
This nine-part case study brings to its readers the real-life stories and practical experiences of people at the frontlines of deciding, operating, and providing a faecal sludge or wastewater treatment service across Africa and Asia.
By documenting their stories and insights, the co-authors offer a more comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges accompanying select technologies, including constructed wetlands, coco peat filters, briquettes, deep row entrenchment, and many more.
They conclude that whilst technologies abound, decision-makers and investors must consider how people - in diverse settings - interact with treatment technologies. And, to progress informed choice technology selection processes, they offer several factors to consider, including energy requirements, land requirements, and reuse.
