Faecal sludge reuse - briquette carbonisation
Offers several technologies to advance safe sanitation management and could potentially contribute to energy poverty.
Abstract
In this paper, SNV and partners in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) explore the opportunities and challenges for producing, using, and marketing charcoal briquettes as one of several alternative fuel options. Concluding that biochar may be among the many 'eco-friendly fuels of the future,' the paper follows the journey taken by the SNV team in Bangladesh after being introduced by colleagues in Kenya to this method of transforming human waste into energy during an SNV learning event on urban sanitation.
