30-day notice: Kirirom and DFCD
DFCD approved support for Kirirom Food Production to scale climate-resilient, circular mango processing and cut post-harvest losses for smallholder farmers.
Abstract
This disclosure notice outlines SNV’s planned support to Kirirom Food Production Co., Ltd (KFP) through the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) Origination Facility. KFP is a leading dried‑fruit processor in Cambodia, specialising in mango products. Founded in 2013, the company aims to reduce food loss in the rapidly expanding Cambodian mango sector and add value to local production. Exports represent over 90 percent of its sales, supported by recognised safety and quality certifications. KFP supplies international markets across the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia.
By 2024, KFP had expanded its processing capacity from 10 tonnes of fresh mango per day with 50 staff to 100 tonnes per day with nearly 2,000 employees. The company sources mangoes from about 550 farmers, most of whom are smallholders. Due to strong global demand, KFP reached full processing capacity and began turning away orders. To meet this demand and strengthen the resilience of its supply chain, the company has developed an investment plan to double its dried mango capacity and diversify into mango purée and juice. The expansion aims to enhance farmer support programmes and promote climate‑resilient agricultural practices.
The DFCD Origination Facility will provide a €305,500 grant, with an anticipated USD 8 million in leveraged debt financing. Cambodia’s agricultural sector faces significant climate risks, and strengthening resilience among mango farmers aligns with national strategies for climate‑smart agriculture. Mango is considered a strategic crop due to its export potential, higher income returns, and lower climate vulnerability compared to other staples.
