SNV has had a presence in Lao PDR since 1993. We established an independent organisation in 2003.

In Lao PDR, SNV implements agri-food, energy and water projects. We prioritise interventions that address gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, climate adaptation and mitigation, and institutional strengthening.

Our work is aligned with Laos PDR’s 9th National Socio-Economic Development Plan and the National Growth and Poverty Eradication Strategy.

In the agri-food sector, we have contributed to reducing the stunting prevalence of children under five. We work on commercialising agriculture value chains by strengthening farmer linkages to markets and improving the enabling environment for agro-enterprise and value chain development.

Through our close collaboration with government partners, 140 villages have been declared open defecation-free (ODF), and we have improved the capacity of our stakeholders in rolling out climate-resilient WASH services. As for our interventions in the energy sector, we have focused on disseminating certified cookstoves made from locally available materials. We continue to work on the energy regulatory space by supporting the roll-out of clean energy projects.
