Job Summary
Join SNV as Provincial ESG Advisor for the Sustainable Coffee Exchange, a 3-year initiative (2026–2029) co-implemented by SNV and the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD), with funding from EuropeAid and JDE.
The project will strengthen adoption and application of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices within the coffee sector in Lam Dong and Son La provinces of Viet Nam. Working with 50 MSMEs, cooperatives, business associations, and civil society groups, the project will:
- Build the capacity of MSMEs and cooperatives to adopt improved ESG practices.
- Facilitate access to investment for ESG integration into coffee value chains.
- Strengthen the role of civil society and non-state actors (NSAs) in promoting responsible business.
- Contribute to coffee and environmental platforms for multi-stakeholder dialogue with local government to enable a supportive ecosystem for ESG adoption.
The Provincial ESG Advisor will be responsible for supporting the adoption of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices by MSMEs, cooperatives, and civil society organisations in Son La.
Working under the guidance of the Project Manager and Senior ESG Advisor, the Provincial ESG Advisor will implement capacity-building activities, conduct ESG risk assessments, support the rollout of the ESG scorecard and action plans, and facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues. They will also liaise with local government agencies, business associations, and community groups to ensure locally tailored ESG approaches.
Job Description
Capacity Building & Technical Support
- Deliver ESG training and tailored coaching for MSMEs, cooperatives, business associations, and CSOs.
- Support the application of the ESG scorecard and development of ESG action plans at enterprise and cooperative level.
- Provide advisory services to MSMEs and cooperatives on ESG adoption and compliance with EU and national requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the focal point for local government agencies, cooperatives, and business associations in the province.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues and local coordination platforms on ESG practices.
- Strengthen community and civil society engagement through supporting Citizen-Generated Data Initiatives (CGDIs).
Implementation Support
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the ESG Resource Hub with locally relevant content.
- Lead stakeholder mapping effort for their respective province.
- Identify and document good practices, lessons learned, and case studies from the province.
- Support organisation of provincial-level events, including investor matchmaking and ESG leadership recognition.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Collect and analyse ESG-related data from MSMEs, cooperatives, and CSOs in the province.
- Provide regular updates to the Project Manager on progress, challenges, and risks.
- Contribute to donor and SNV reporting with provincial case studies and results.
Qualifications
- Vietnamese citizen.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- At least 5 years of professional experience in ESG, sustainability, responsible business, or agricultural value chains.
- Experience working directly with MSMEs, cooperatives, and CSOs at provincial or community level.
- Strong facilitation and training skills.
- Good written and spoken English
Competencies
- Knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and EU-related regulations (EUDR, CSRD).
- Experience in the coffee sector or other agricultural commodities.
- Proven ability to build partnerships with government agencies, private sector, and civil society actors.
- Strong data collection and reporting skills.
- Willingness to travel within the province and occasionally to Hanoi.
Additional Information
Contract Duration: SNV Viet Nam offers a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.
