Join SNV at the AGRF 2023 as we delve into sustainable and inclusive food systems transformation.

Our objectives

At SNV, our commitment to supporting the equitable transition to a more sustainable and resilient agri-food system for all is unwavering. The African Food Systems Forum is one of the main events on African Food Systems and its objective is at the core of SNV's agri-food strategy. As we gear up for the forum, we're not just attending — we're seeking to inspire and influence. Here's what we're setting out to achieve:

  • Showcase innovations: Present the transformative power of sustainable livestock practices in Africa, and highlight the importance of regenerative agriculture and the integration of Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE).

  • Engage and collaborate: Foster meaningful interactions with stakeholders, policymakers, and participants, seeking to amplify voices of young African farmers and spur collective action for inclusive agricultural growth.

  • Empower communities: Highlight the significant contributions of women and youth, in the agri-food sector, demonstrating the tangible impact of SNV and partner projects on their lives and livelihoods.

  • Drive policy dialogue: Share insights, lessons learned, and recommendations that can shape future policies and strategies, furthering our mission of creating sustainable and resilient food systems.

Herding Change: Sustainable Livestock Innovation by Women and Youth

Monday, September 4, at 16:00 - 17:30 EAT, Mkomazi Hall

In African food systems, animal source foods (i.e. milk, meat and eggs) can play a critical role in addressing challenges to food security, nutrition, employment, economic growth and climate adaptation, particularly for women and youth.

In partnership with Heifer International, Global Daily Platform, International Livestock Research Institute, and Land O'Lakes Venture 37, this session will shed light on the transformative power of sustainable livestock practices in Africa, focusing on women and youth entrepreneurship in the livestock sector. By showcasing successful business models from East Africa and identifying entry points within livestock value chains, the session strives to inspire action and develop recommendations that foster inclusivity and support for these groups while addressing climate-related challenges in the sector.

Breakfast with purpose: savouring the regenerative food systems – energy nexus

Wednesday, September 6, at 07:00 - 09:00 EAT - Ruaha Hall

Harnessing renewables in our quest for sustainable food systems is no longer an option—it's a necessity. In partnership with IKEA Foundation, REGEN10, and the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, we delve deep into the nexus between regenerative agriculture and productive use of renewable energy.

This session will unpack how sustainable and resilient food systems can be achieved through farmer-centric and inclusive approaches to regenerative food systems via a nexus approach that integrates Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE). These practices accelerate a transition to food systems that are less energy-intensive, more cost-effective and powered by renewables, delivering better outcomes for people, nature, and climate. Participants will share lessons, best practices, and examples of PURE technologies and other innovative approaches that can facilitate the envisioned food systems transformation.
