The Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) and SNV, through the BRILHO Energy Africa programme, will hold a joint conference in November 2022 to explore how to make the Regulatory Framework for the off-grid, sustainable energy market more accessible.

Where and when?

The Regional Conference on the Regulatory Framework for Access to Off-grid Energy will take place:

  • Date: 22 and 23 November 2022

  • Location: Maputo, Mozambique

About the event

This international event will bring together more than 50 panellists to share knowledge on the regulatory framework for access to energy in off-grid areas with relevant stakeholders. The event will provide a forum for knowledge exchange and create opportunities for synergies in the off-grid energy sector in Mozambique and Africa.

During the event, regulators, funders and operators, and participants in the off-grid and renewable energy access sector from Mozambique and other African countries will present, discuss, and provide recommendations on the challenges and opportunities for the sector. Also, how off-grid and renewable energy can be a viable path to reaching the objectives of universal access to efficient and clean energy sources by 2030.

Thematic sessions will cover topics such as quality of customer service and digital solutions, certification and application of technical quality and safety standards, interconnection of the national network and energy transition strategies, tariff schemes, financing options and others. Participants will also address rural environments and local contexts, including Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI).

Memorandum of Understanding

ARENE and SNV signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2022 to operationalise the regulatory framework for off-grid energy access. This conference has been organised in response to one of the actions contributing to this Memorandum's implementation. Read more here.
