Launching workshop for the Community Development Project Tra Vinh (CDP Tra Vinh)

On December 8, 2023, SNV in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Tra Vinh Province and the People's Committee of Duyen Hai Town (Duyen Hai town PC), organized the Launching workshop for the Community Development Project Tra Vinh. The event was attended by over 50 delegates, including representatives from the Tra Vinh DARD, the donorTra Vinh Wind Power No.1 Joint Stock Company (TWPC), local authorities of Duyen Hai Town and Duyen Hai District, project area communes, SNV Vietnam, Women's Union, and beneficiaries in the project area.

Dr. Le Thi Thu Huong - Project Manager of CDP Tra Vinh shared at the workshop: ‘CDP Tra Vinh is a project of great significance for the socio-economic development of the project area and Tra Vinh province in general. On behalf of SNV – the project implementing agency, I hope to receive strong support and collaboration from the local authorities, businesses, and communities to continue the mission of bringing practical and sustainable benefits to the people of Tra Vinh province’.

Mr. Pham Xuan Tuan, HSSSE Manager at TWPC emphasized: ‘We are extremely proud to continue sponsoring and accompanying SNV in implementing the project in the communes of Duyen Hai town and Duyen Hai district in Tra Vinh province. I hope the CDP Tra Vinh project will be successful and achieve tangible results. We understand that horticulture and aquaculture are crucial livelihood activities for the local community’.

After the launching workshop event, CDP Tra Vinh Project promptly implemented the first training sessions for farmers in the project area. On January 25, 2024, the first training sessions on pond improvement and extensive shrimp farming techniques were organized with the participation of 65 extensive shrimp farmers in Long Toan and Truong Long Hoa communes. With great enthusiasm from all participants, the training session was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Bich, Deputy Director of the Institute of Science and Technology at the Tra Vinh University, and Mr. Nguyen Cong Thuc, Deputy Head of the Aquaculture Department at the Tra Vinh Provincial Aquaculture Department. Farmers had the opportunity to exchange experience and receive guidance on pond improvement and shrimp nursery techniques to increase productivity and prevent shrimp diseases.

On January 26, 2024, the next project training session focused on peanut pest and disease control techniques, with the participation of nearly 30 farmers in Ngu Lac commune, Duyen Hai district. With the guidance of Mr. Trang Tung - Deputy Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Tra Vinh province, farmers were not only instructed theoretically but also went to the fields to ‘see with their own eyes, and touch with their own hands’ to gain practical experience in identifying common pests and diseases on peanut and know how to effectively prevent and control them. The training sessions received high attention and appreciation from the participants and were considered a successful start for the project. Through this first training session, the project managers also gained a better understanding of the current situation and farmer needs, thereby continuing to develop appropriate activities in the future to bring long-term benefits to the local community.
