SNV supports urban Water and Sanitation Programmes (WSP) to improve their technical, commercial and financial performance. Since 2007, the number of WSPs we have worked with has increased from 3 to 28.

The projects we support collectively impact 180,000 beneficiaries every year. SNV focuses on enhancing commercialization initiatives by WSPs, while expanding service provision to the poor and the un-served populations. SNV in partnership with Vitens Evides International (VEI) implemented innovative approaches to reduce Non – Revenue Water (NRW) - the single most important factor challenging financial sustainability. The result was successful improvement in the technical and financial performance of selected WSPs. One such approach funded by DGIS entailed implementing specific NRW management strategies to 10 selected WSPs. The approach is expected to benefit 139,000 people between 2014 and 2015. So far, participating WSPs have reported varying levels of increased service coverage, reduced NRW levels, improved customer satisfaction, and enhanced pro-poor focus. Overall, this has positively impacted on WSPs’ technical, commercial and financial sustainability.
