1 October, The Hague – Stendert Krommendam and Joyeeta Gupta are the new Members of the Supervisory Board of the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation.
Stendert Krommendam joins the Supervisory Board from 1 October 2020 for a four-year term. He is a Dutch national who is currently Group HR Director for Wessanen based out of Lyon/Amsterdam. Prior to that, he served in various (international) HR leadership roles at Ahold, Unilever, and NCR. He has worked and lived across multiple geographies and continents, amongst which Accra, Ghana where he has seen and experienced first-hand the real need for access to basic services such as water, sanitation and electricity, amongst others.
Stendert Krommendam will specifically contribute to the Remuneration and Selection Committee within the Supervisory Board of SNV. In this area, he does have a longstanding experience in advising both executive and supervisory boards.
Gupta will join the Supervisory Board from 1 December 2020 for a four-year term. She is full professor of environment and development in the global south at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research of the University of Amsterdam and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. She is also the Faculty Professor on Sustainability (2019-2024). She leads the programme group on Governance and Inclusive Development.
Gupta has just completed her term as co-chair of UNEP’s Global Environment Outlook-6 (2016-2019), published by Cambridge University Press, which was presented to governments participating in the United Nations Environment Assembly in 2019, and was covered in newspapers worldwide. It has just won the Association of American Publishers PROSE Award for Environmental Science. She has also just been named as co-chair of the Earth Commission (2019-2021), set up by Future Earth, together with Johan Rockström and Dahe Qin. She is currently vice-chair of the Curatorium of the Prins Claus Chair on Development and Equity and a member of the Board of the Royal Institute for the Tropics (KIT). She has just completed three terms on the Board of Oxfam Novib.
Krommendam and Gupta are replacing Mirjam van Reisen and Ronald de Jong whose term ended in September 2020. The Supervisory Board and SNV management express their deep gratitude to Mirjam van Reisen and Ronald de Jong for their contributions over the last eight years in which SNV successfully completed the transition from dependence on subsidies from the Netherlands government to breaking even based exclusively on revenues from project financing while at the same time scaling up its impact.
