SNV Nigeria started operations in 2022 and has since grown in operations and project portfolio. SNV Nigeria has a team comprising of 15 staff and associates based across two offices in Abuja and Kano. Since the start of operations, SNV Nigeria has scaled up its profile to include a focus on energy through initiatives in solar power and biodigesters. The Soil Values and 2SCALE projects, both of which are multi-country in nature focus on soil conservation improvements and inclusive agribusiness; both projects have a strong gender and social inclusion emphasis. The Dutch Fund for Climate Adaptation (DFCD) is also a multi-country initiative managed globally by SNV in a consortium. SNV Nigeria has a team developing and supporting the origination aspect of the project.

Scope of Role

The Driver undertakes driving assignment in addition to other logistic responsibilities. Specific functions include transport staff, visitors or errands to destination, based on requests and conform to safety and traffic regulations, in order to contribute to timely and safely arrival. Coordinates and ensures regular maintenance of vehicles including information on vehicle insurances and other logistics .

The position is based in Abuja, Nigeria.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Transportation of goods and assisting personnel with logistical issues; Provide transportation for office, and visitors to and from the Country Programme. Deliver payment transfers to vendors and/or the suppliers, support operations with purchases for office usage, and distribute mail as needed, both incoming and outgoing.
  • Service and vehicle maintenance management: Scheduling of periodic vehicle services, keep track of timely vehicle insurance renewals, and any other vehicle regulatory documentation. Undertake basic and routinely vehicle checks (such as oil, tire pressure etc.), identify technical malfunctions, check potential repair alternatives, conduct repairs to the vehicle and/or send for repair, in consultation with the supervisor. Ensures and keep the vehicle in clean condition, both inside and outside.
  • Perform preventive and regular maintenance on vehicle: Keep the vehicle(s) at the SNV office in good order (providing advice about the use of cars to SNV employees).
  • Maintain mileage logs and ensure all trips are logged appropriately and produce monthly report. Keep record of all driving activities, fuel and any incidents and accidents. 
  • Other Logistical Support: Assist with office and meeting room arrangement for various meetings/events and support advisor with meeting logistics for workshops. When on field trips, assist colleagues with workshop set ups such as mounting projectors, flipcharts, and taking photos etc. 
  • Have end responsibility for use of car, clean and fuel vehicle, check inventory (e.g. first aid kit, second tire etc.).

Qualifications

  • A minimum qualification of WASSCE. Having Diploma in Auto-mechanics is an advantage.
  • Technical knowledge of vehicles and basic maintenance.
  • Be reliable, punctual, committed and self-motivated.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of demonstrated experience in skilled driving, preferably within the INGO sector;
  • Possess a valid driver license B, with clean driving record; familiar and Knowledge of Abuja city routes and major inter-state roads.
  • Have the capacity to carry out his obligations in an expert professional way. He should have the capacity to relate well with associates and clients.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills, speak politely to all staff and partners.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English with basic experience in ICT and typing skills.
  • Maintain good appearance and professionalism.
  • Good sense of duty and willingness to undertake additional task where need be.
  • He/she must be focused, confident, and observant.
